    Levetiracetam

Levetiracetam is used to treat particular types of seizures in people who have epilepsy. It is typically used along with other medications. This medicine is classified as an anti convulsant and it works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. It is commonly sold as Keppra.

Levetiracetam is a white to off-white crystalline powder with a light odor and a bitter taste. It is available in the following strengths:

    • Levetiracetam 250 mg (blue)
    • Levetiracetam 500 mg (yellow)
    • Levetiracetam 750 mg (orange)
    • Levetiracetam 1000 mg (white)

    How to use Levetiracetam?

Levetiracetam comes in two forms – tablet and liquid. It is meant to be taken twice a day, once in the morning, and once at night, with or without food. It is recommended that you try to take the tablets around the same time every day. Take the medicine as prescribed by the doctor, do not change the dosage. This medicine is meant to be swallowed as whole, and not chewed.

Levetiracetam is meant only to control epilepsy, not cure it. Therefore, you are advised to continue taking it, even if you begin to feel better. If you suddenly stop taking Levetiracetam, your seizures might actually worsen.
