    Glipizide ER

    What is Glipizide ER?

Glipizide is an oral medicine given to diabetic patients. It helps control blood sugar levels. It assists the pancreas in producing insulin, and is meant to be used alongside a proper diet and exercise regimen to treat type-2 diabetes.

What is Glipizide ER used for?

Glipizide ER is used to treat type-2 diabetes. With type-2 diabetes, the body does not control the amount of blood sugar, which is caused by the abnormal use of insulin by the body.  Glipizide ER lowers the blood sugar by causing the pancreas to produce insulin. Keep in mind that this medication will only help lower blood sugar in individuals whose bodies produce insulin naturally. It does not help with type-1 diabetes.

In addition to taking this medication, it is also important that you bring about healthy and positive changes in your lifestyle. These include diet, exercise, quitting smoking and regularly checking your blood sugar level to manage your health better.

What are the Glipizide ER side effects?

Glipizide can cause certain side effects such as changes in your blood sugar levels. You should be well aware of the symptoms of changing blood sugar levels and should have sufficient knowledge on how to deal with these symptoms, should they occur. In addition, get in touch with your doctor if the following symptoms do not go away or get severe:

    • Diarrhea
    • Gas
    • Feeling jittery
    • Rash
    • Hives
    • Blisters
    • Red or itchy skin
    • Uncontrollable shaking

This medication may cause some serious side effects. These include,

    • Unusual bruising or bleeding
    • Yellowing of the skin or eyes
    • Pain in the upper part of the stomach
    • Dark urine
    • Fever
    • Sore throat

    What is Glucotrol XL?

Glucotrol XL (Glipizide extended release) is the brand name under which Glipizide is available. It has two main layers: the first one being an active layer containing the drug, and the second one being a ‘push’ layer containing inert components.

What should you do in case of a Glipizide overdose?

In case of an overdose, you might experience symptoms such as seizures and loss of consciousness. If that happens, your friend, family or caretaker must contact the local poison control center or 911 immediately.

What should you do in case of a missed Glipizide dose?

In case you missed a dose, you should ask your doctor for instructions. As a general rule, however, it is advisable that you take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take the medication twice to make up for a missed one.

If you wish to buy Glipizide ER tablets, you can check your local medical stores or online pharmacies such as HealthWarehouse.com. Keep in mind that this is a prescription drug and you’ll need your doctor’s prescription to get this medication.
