Polycarbophil is used to treat constipation. It is known as a bulk-forming laxative. It increases the bulk in your stool, an effect that helps to cause movement of the intestines. It also works by increasing the amount of water in the stool, making the stool softer and easier to pass.
Dosage will vary according to diet, exercise, previous laxative use or severity of constipation. Continued use for 1 to 3 days is normally required to provide full benefit. Adults and children over 12 years: 2 caplets, 1 to 4 times a day. Children 6 to 12 years: 1 caplet, 1 to 4 times a day. Children under 6 years: ask a doctor.
