    Zenequin 25mg Tablets

For Use in Dogs and Cats Only

CAUTION: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

DESCRIPTION:Zeniquin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is indicated for the treatment of susceptible infections. This medication fights infections of the skin, soft tissue, and urinary tract but it is also effective against bacteria in other parts of the body. It is given orally (by mouth) and is available with a prescription written by your veterinarian.

USES:Zeniquin is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibacterial. It’s indicated for the treatment of infections associated with bacteria susceptible to marbofloxacin. Zeniquin requires a prescription from your veterinarian, and is sold by the tablet.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:Marbofloxacin and other quinolones have been shown to cause arthropathy in immature animals of most species tested, the dog being particularly sensitive to this side effect. Marbofloxacin is contraindicated in immature dogs during the rapid growth phase (small and medium breeds up to 8 months of age, large breeds up to 12 months of age and giant breeds up to 18 months of age). Marbofloxacin is also contraindicated in cats under 12 months of age. Marbofloxacin is contraindicated in dogs and cats known to be hypersensitive to quinolones.

WARNINGS:The most common side effects are gastrointestinal in nature and include lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Tiredness has also been reported. Seizures in animals with central nervous system (CNS) disorders, depression, dizziness, nervousness, and other behavioral changes have been reported but are rare. If your pet displays any unusual symptoms while on this medication, contact your veterinarian immediately. Signs of an allergic reaction include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, and coma. Any of these symptoms should be reported to your veterinarian immediately. To limit the potential development of antimicrobial resistance: - Fluoroquinolone drugs such as Zeniquin should not be used indiscriminately - Zeniquin should not be used in food producing animals. Keep out of reach of children.

PRECAUTIONS:Tell your veterinarian about any other medications, vitamins, or supplements your pet is taking prior to starting Zeniquin. Interactions may occur with oral cyclosporine, other antibiotics, flunixin, glyburide, methotrexate, probenecid, theophylline, warfarin, and phenytoin. Do not use within 2 hours of giving antacids, sucralfate, iron, aluminum, calcium, or dairy products since this can decrease the absorption of Zeniquin. People with hypersensitivities (allergies) to quinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin, should not handle the medication, since a reaction is possible just from direct contact.

    INFORMATION FOR DOG OWNERS:

Tell your veterinarian about any other medications, vitamins, or supplements your pet is taking prior to starting Zeniquin. Signs of your pets infection should begin to dissipate and your pet should start to feel better. It is possible to see some improvement within two to three days but results and the length of time it takes for the infection to resolve will vary in each individual pet. It is important for your pet to finish all of the medication that your veterinarian prescribes even if your pet appears well. If the entire course of treatment is not completed, there is a higher chance that the infection will return or worsen. Consult your veterinarian if you do not notice an improvement in your pets symptoms after completing the prescribed course of this medication.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:Give Zeniquin tablets by mouth (orally) as directed by your veterinarian. Zeniquin is generally prescribed for once a day use but your veterinarian will determine the exact dose and dosing frequency that is right for your pet. If you do not understand how to give this medication or if have difficulty administering it, contact your veterinarian for further instructions. Make sure you use all of the medication that is prescribed even if your pet appears well. There is a higher tendency for the infection to recur or worsen if you do not complete the entire course of treatment. Provide plenty of fresh water for your pet to drink while taking this medication. Do not give this medication within two hours of giving dairy products. If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.

STORAGE: Zeniquin should be stored in a tight, light-resistant, childproof container at room temperature. Keep this medication in a place that is out of reach from children and pets.
