Viokase-V Powder- 8oz
Caution: Federal (USA) law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children.
Description:Pancreatic Insufficiency Disorder (PID) is a disorder that stops your pet’s pancreas from functioning properly and producing key enzymes needed to digest food. Viokase-V is a prescription medication that replaces the enzymes your dog or cat needs to get required nutrients from her food and maintain a healthy weight.
USES:Viokase-V powder is prescribed to supplement your pet with the enzymes that are needed if they struggle with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, a condition where your pet's body is unable to produce enough pancreatic enzymes to digest food properly. It may also be prescribed to treat acute and chronic pancreatitis. Dogs and cats that suffer from Pancreatic Insufficiency Disorder (PID) can’t digest the nutrients they need from food. The disease stops the pancreas from producing critical enzymes that break down fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Prescription Viokase-V is a powder that is mixed with food to replace those critical missing enzymes. Daily treatment with Viokase-V will help improve your pet’s digestion and overall health.
Dosage: Follow your veterinarian's exact instructions for dosing. The powder is usually mixed with your pet's food. Add a small amount of warm water if mixing Viokase-V with dry food. Allow food to sit for 15-20 minutes before serving.
Precautions: In humans, inhaling the powder may cause an asthma attack or irritation to the lungs. Viokase-V can also cause skin irritation. Wash immediately if you get any on your skin or your pet's skin. Always wash hands after handling this medication. Advise your veterinarian if your pet is allergic to pork.
Adverse Reactions:Consult your veterinarian before using Viokase with any other medications or supplements. Antacids, cimetidine and other histamine H2 receptor antagonists may interact or decrease the effectiveness of Viokase.
Safety:In the event of an overdose: Contact your veterinarian immediately.
