Linaclotide may improve stool texture and lessen symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain/discomfort, straining, and feelings of incomplete bowel movements. This medication must not be used in children younger than 6 years because of the risk of serious side effects.

Take this medication by mouth on an empty stomach as directed by your doctor, usually once daily at least 30 minutes before your first meal of the day. Swallow the capsules whole. Do not break or chew the capsules. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

SIDE EFFECTS: Diarrhea, bloating, gas, or stomach/abdominal pain/discomfort may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
